Chess

I learned how to play chess when I was six years old, but I didn't appreciate it until sixth grade, during the Kasparov-Deep Blue rematch. Ever since then I have been an avid chess player. I sometimes play in tournaments, and my USCF rating is currently 1572. I also like to play chess on ICC, and my handle there is ComplexZeta. Below you can see some of my favorite games from my tournaments, as well as some of my favorite games from the world's best players. Enjoy!

My Best Chess Games

This is my best game from an early tournament. I got a nice positional advantage and used it to win. This was probably my first real positional victory. My previous games were really much more tactical. I finished with 3.5/6 in the state championship in 2001.

In this game, I was paired against an opponent nearly 700 points above me. However, I was able to get a winning position. Back then, I was not too confident about my endgame skills, so I took a draw, although I had good winning chances. The county championship in 2002 was not a good tournament for me except for this game. I ended up with only 2.5/5.

This was an extremely complicated game. I had an advantage from the opening, but I missed some winning lines and then sacrificed some material for less-than-sufficient compensation. However, he sacrifices all the material back, and I end up with a technical but difficult winning position. However, he flags after attempting a failed call of insufficient losing chances.

The 2003 state scholastic championship didn’t go very well for me. I lost a fascinating game in round 2 to Robert Chan, and, despite the result, I am pleased with my fearless play against a much higher-rated player.
